How can I stop unwanted phone calls?

This information applies to England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland

If the phone calls are from people trying to sell you something then you can sign up to the Telephone Preference Service. Companies should not make phone calls to people who have signed up to this service. For details of how to register, contact the Telephone Preference Service on 0845 070 0707, or visit their website at www.tpsonline.org.uk. If the phone calls are from strangers who do not give their name and are being offensive then contact the police. This sort of nuisance call is against the law and a person can be prosecuted if they are discovered doing this.

There are various ways of trying to find out who is making nuisance calls.
