Do I need a TV licence at university?

This information applies to England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland

Most students will need a television licence. There are a few exceptions, for example if the TV set cannot receive television programmes and you are only using it as a computer monitor. However, students in halls of residence will nearly always need their own TV licence.

If you are living in a house with other people you will only need one licence if you all live as one household i.e. share bills and kitchen and other facilities.

If your house is divided into bedsits or flats with their own facilities then each unit will need its own TV licence.
