Wales    Personal tax allowance increase

Personal tax allowance increase - In Wales

The increase to the 2008/09 personal tax allowance takes effect on 7 September. It will increase by £600 from £5,435 to £6,035. This increase will be backdated to 6 April. Many people’s tax code will change from 7 September and you will have less tax to pay for the rest of the year.

Your employer should make sure that any refund due to you is made.

For more information about how the changes will affect you, go to HM Revenue and Custom's website at: (New window) www.hmrc.gov.uk.

HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) has published guidance on what employers should do. It is available from the HMRC website at (New window) www.hmrc.gov.uk.
