My local council made a mess of my housing benefit claim, although I did get the money in the end. Someone told me that there is an ombudsman who can help me complain about how my claim was handled

This information applies to Scotland

The Scottish Public Services Ombudsman can investigate the way a local authority has carried out its functions. The ombudsman is primarily concerned with the process, rather than the outcome, but in this case, if you do complain about your local council it might make the claims system better for others.

To find out more about the Scottish Public Services Ombudsman, see How to use an Ombudsman in Scotland.
