I have just found out that my son is autistic. Can he continue to go to our local primary school?

This information applies to Scotland

Your child may be still able to attend his local primary school – all schools should have an accessibility strategy which helps the inclusion of pupils with additional support needs. However, it may be helpful for you or your son’s school to ask the education authority to open a Co-ordinated Support Plan for your son. This will assess what help he requires and consider what school it would be best for him to attend. There are several organisations which can give you further advice.

For more information about additional support needs, see Guide for parents on additional support for learning (published by Enquire).
For more information about organisations which give advice, see Education organisations which give information and advice.
