This information applies to Scotland
Local authorities are currently changing the way that grants, loans and non-financial assistance are provided to private home owners. The new system is called the Scheme of Assistance. You will need to check with your local authority to find out what is available.
All local authorities must provide a grant to assist someone adapt a house for the use of a disabled person.
If you want to get any adaptations made you should consult an experienced adviser for example, at a Citizens Advice Bureau. To search for details of your nearest CAB, including those that can give advice by email, click on
nearest CAB.
You can find some information about grants which might be available if your local authority has not yet changed to the new Scheme of Assistance in a leaflet produced by the Scottish Executive (now known as the Scottish Government) called:-
