How can a pre-paid card help me?

This information applies to England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland

A pre-paid card can be very useful for some people. It is a payment card that you top up with your own money before you can use it. You can usually top it up at a cash point at the bank or over the internet. No credit is involved. No credit checks are done before you can get a card but there will be a monthly charge. You may also be charged each time you use your card.

You can get a pre-paid card if you can't get a normal debit or credit card or if you want to avoid getting into debt. You can buy things with it or to take out cash up to the limit of the money you put in.
