My father has been living abroad for ten years and has just asked me if he can still vote in UK elections.

People who have been on a UK electoral register in the last 15 years can make an 'annual declaration' which lets them be included on the electoral register they were last on in the UK.

British consulates abroad have the forms, which must be sent to the electoral registration office of their last constituency.

Once registered, you can vote at any parliamentary or European parliament election. You cannot vote in local government elections or in elections to devolved assemblies, such as the National Assembly for Wales, the Scottish Parliament or the Northern Ireland Assembly.
