Child Support changes

If you were a single parent and you did not provide the Child Support Agency with enough information to allow them to make a maintenance assessment, your benefit might have been reduced. This rule has now changed. If your benefit was reduced, you will now have the full amount reinstated.

Also it used to be the case that if you were a single parent and you claimed Income Support or income-based Jobseeker's Allowance, you would automatically be treated as if you had made an application to the Child Support Agency. This rule has also changed so you will not be treated as if you had made an application to the Child Support Agency.

For more information about Income Support, see Help for people on a low income – Income Support.
